Ever since Trump was elected president, more and more government officials have been trying very hard to take him down and undermine his presidency, by revealing classified and very sensitive information.

It turns out that the level of corruption in the U.S. Government has gone beyond sky high in the past several months precisely because of this. A recent arrest of a State Department member of staff, has just confirmed that. This staff member was allegedly charged with obstructing an FBI investigation into her communications with foreign intelligence agents.

According to a report from Western Journalism, Candace Claiborne, is a 60 year-old member of staff who was taken to prison for refusing an official proceeding and sharing false accusations with the FBI. The woman who has worked with the State Department since 1999 pleaded not guilty to all charges in her appearance befor the curt.

As the Department of Justice has stated, Claiborne was accused of communicating with two Chinese intelligence agents who “delivered tens of thousands of dollars in presents and benefits to Claiborne and her family for more than five years.”

Claiborne reportedly served in Baghdad, Iraq, Khartoum, Sudan, and Beijing and Shanghai, China during her career. And when the State Department requested that she reports her contacts she  refused to do so.

The Department of Justice has revealed that Claiborne received money and “an Apple iPhone and laptop computer, Chinese New Year’s presents, dinners, international travels and vacation trips, a Chinese fashion school paid tuition, a completely furnished apartment, and a monthly scolarship.” They also said that when Claiborne learned that she was under investigation she  “advised her co-conspirators to erase evidence linking her to the (Chinese) agents.”

Andrew W. Vale, an assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Washington field office reportedly said that : “Candace Claiborne is accused of violating her oath of office as a State Department employee, who was entrusted with Top Secret information when she purposefully mislead federal investigators about her significant and repeated interactions with foreign contacts.”

He also added that : “The FBI will continue to investigate individuals who, though required by law, fail to report foreign contacts, which is a key indicator of potential insider threats posed by those in positions of public trust.”

In a statement released by attorney Channing Phillips, he said  “As a State Department employee with a Top Secret clearance, she received training and briefing about the need for caution and transparency,” continuing to say, “this case demonstrates that U.S. government employees will be held accountable for failing to honor the trust placed in them when they take on such sensitive assignments.”

Claiborne could be looking ad 25 years of prison time, if she is to be charged.

Nevertheless, her story is a real proof of how corrupt the administration has become nowadays.
